THE DAVIS CUP.
PATTERSON INTERVIEWED.! UPHOLDS HIS OPINION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. NEW YORK. September 6. When interviewed. Gerald Patterson said that in his opinion what Anderson bad accomplished against Tilde,i showed that his judgment was not awry in picking him instead of Wood lor the singles. Anderson, despite illness and lack of practice proved that i he had at least a ten to one chance of J beating Tilden and -Johnston which, in consideration of his average form, was all he might have expected. " Wood, on the other hand, with all his steadiness, would not have had a chance against either. Mood never makes any serious pretensions with regard to the singles, but he is a wonderful doubles player. Both Anderson and myself" have beaten him so often in the singles that my choice was practically compulsory. This fact is thoroughly realised b?.- tennis followers in Australia.”
