A CHRISTCHURCH PETITION.
A FAVOUR ABLE REPORT. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELTNGTOX, August 7. The Public Petitions Committee has recommended the Government to grant Jane Morris, a Christchurch widow, an annual payment equivalent to old age pension until she reaches the age of sixty. Mrs Morris had petitioned Parliament for a compassionate allowance on account of her husband’s death at Otira. He was overwhelmed by a fall of .shingle which covered hi© hut, hut compensation could not be paid a s he was technically not engaged in his ordinary employment under the Public Works Department at the time of his death.
