METROPOLITAN WEEKLY MARKET. YESTERDAY’S SALE. Fiat cattle and fat sheep both met with an improved demand at the metropolitan weekly market at Addington yesterday. The entry of fat cattle numbered 327 head compared with 350 last week. Generally speaking the quality was better, the bulk of the entry consisting of medium to prime beef. The sale opened briskly and although the demand slackened about three-quar-ters of the way through it brigtened up again over the finn] pens. Taken all round prices were somewhat better than those ruling last week. Best beef sold in the vicinity of £2 per 1001 b, but the bulk of the prime stuff made from 35s to 37s 6d. Six very prime steers from Air A. K. Birdling (Birdling* s Flat) averaged £l9 Is, top price being £2O 2s 6d. The entry of fat filled only eight races, compared with fourteen at the previous sale. On account of the short yarding the sale opened briskly and prices improved as it progressed. On an average values were up from 3s to 4s per head on those ruling last week. A complete clearance was made. Top wether price, A4s. was paid for th? ten best of a line of 58 from Air G. P. Casey (The Gave), and top ewe price, 31s 6d, for a pen of sixteen from Air &. L. Nell (Alt Somers).

There was an average yarding of store cattle consisting mostly of cows with several pens of heifers. .Except for there was little demand Seven three and three and a half-year old steers made £5 15s. fifteen backward springers made £4 12s. and empty cows* 335. There were no other quotable lines. Dairy cattle were forward in large numbers but the ontrv was not so big last week’s. There was a fairly good demand for second and third calverson the point of calving and also for springing heifers. However, aged anti inferior cows, cows that had calved over ’seven days and backward sprngers were not sought after. Fat and store pigs were both forward in small numbers. Fat pigs met with a good demand and prices showed an improvement on late rates, but stores remained practically unchanged. Following are ranges of values : FAT CATTLE.
