RAIN CAUSES SLIPS, TRAINS DELAYED. (Per Punas Association., TATHAPE, August 23. Owing to heavy rain after a long period of frostv weather slips have occurred on the Main Trunk Line causing a stoppage of traffic. On Tuesday afternoon a. slip between Utiku and Mangavreka caused the 5.20 evening train from Marton to bo delayed half an hour. A more serious stoppage occurred this morning a mile south of Hihitahi. entirely blocking all through traffic to Auckland. The train arriving at Tai hape at 4 a.m. from Ohakuuo ran. into a slip and the engine left the rails but no damage was done. The slip is being rapidly removed and the Auckland express, due at Taihape at 6.30 a.m., is expected to get through to Tai iiape at about J p;%i. If the rain continue* other slips are likely to occur.
