Mr Rw Twyneham appeared for tlieaccused, and said that it was his intention to take advantage of the right of trial by jury. Witness asked the accused what he was doing with them, and after some hesitation accused replied:-- *' They are not mine, they belong to a porter in the railway.” Witnes.-: asked the porter's name, but the ac cused said : ‘Tf *1 tell, you will only • lumber* him." The accused way taken to the inside enclosure to see Chief-Detective Cameron. He there admitted the in the notebook were his. but said that the double charts did not belong to him. He then produced a railway pass which showed that he was an advertising linesman. The accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being ai lowed for £SO and one surety of £SO.
