MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
TO-DAY’S CASES. CHRISTCHURCH. DRUNKENNESS. A stylishly dressed woman, who hid her face in a large fur collar as she stood in the dock, was fined ss, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. BACK AGAIN. James Riley, elderly and grizaled, who was recently before the court on a charge of drunkenness, appeared again on a similar charge. Folice evidence was given which showed that the defendant became, extremely violent when drunk, and had recently threatened to commit suicide. Sub-Inspector J. K. Simpson said that the defendant had about £9 in his possession, and it looked as if he intended to spend it all in drink. The defendant was remanded for seven days’ medioal treatment. REMANDED. Ivan Afajor Illing was charged that on August 8. at Fendalton, he broke and entered the dwelling of Mawson Stewart. Chief-Detective Cameron said that the accused had intimated that he would plead guilty, and it was the intention of the police to go on with fifteen charges against the accused. The accused was remanded* to. appear to morrow.
