CRICKET.
PSESS CRITICISM OP MACLAREICS TEAM. By Telegraph—Press "Association —Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received August 23. 9.18 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 23. The '"Daily Telegraph ’ ‘ says that the personnw of Maclgtren’s team, so fax-, is not up tXi expectations. Had Hubert Ashton, Jardine, and several others been available the team would have presented a more favourable aspect- With the exception of a couple of players, the combination appears mediocre. There is no marked bowling talent, and what there is will probably prove ineffective on the hard Australian wickets. Chapman and Calthorpe are the stars of the team. Gibson, if lie accepts, will considerably strengthen the bowling. Of the rest, little can be said, as their performances against Australia last year were not too brilliant.
