Tine sou’-westerly Conditions which have been in evidence during the past three days have been accompanied with welcome rain, but it was not until last night that the rainfall became heavy. In the twenty-four hours up till 9.30 o'clock this morning 0.470 inches fell, and from 9.30 till noon to-day the rainfall was 0.050 inches. The rainfall to date this year has been only 12.190 inches compared with 15.892 inches in the same period last year. The present wet spell commenced on August 18. and the reports issued by the Magnetic Observatory show that the rainfall for the twentv-four hours ended at 9.30 a.m. each day was aa follows :
