CONCERTS ON SUNDAY.
Sir, —I notice you are a supporter of the proposal to allow fixed charges for concerts held on Sundays. I think a great many people will strongly object to' this. It seems that the reason for asking permission to charge a fixed fee is due to the fact that many who patronise Sunday concerts contribute very little. While I do not uphold this attitude. nor object to Sunday concerts, I think it is the absence of the fixed charge in the past which has kept down these mushroom entertainments that appear every now and again on tho Sabbath. While there are many concerts given for a good cause I think some of these Sunday gatherings could well be done away with. A good musical programme on occasions is welcome, but the right to make fixed charges seems very much like the thin edge of the wedge which will be only too quickly availed of by many who already regard the observance of the Sabbath too lightly.—l am, etc., CONSCIENCE.
