As we pointed out in lest week’s notes, this part of the district is badly in need of lighting facilities. Last year attention was drawn to the excessive speed of motorists using the highways in the district, especially near the school. Tt is to l>o hoped that this season measures will be taken to impose a speed limit—not by notice signs but by stricter measures, as in the past little heed lias been taken of- the The light in the shelter shod has been missing for some time, * Seeing that lights still burn in other shelters'' it i-. obvious that our shelter should h* lighted. It is time that broom and lupin, noxioijs weeds, should be cleared from the roads. Burwood would offer greater facilities for boating if the river was cared for by those in autboritv. It badlv needs a clean out m this locality. The local schoolboys scored a goo ! win in their last football match. Although the noAv bridge has not officially been declared open, it is being used for vehicle traffic. Whop will |h° opening take place? The electric post at the corner of Lake Terrace and River Roads need* replacing, as it seems to be affected bv woodrot. When the Shirley Road tramway oxtension is put in hand and finished the No. 10 line aa ill carry a large number of passengers, as it will pass through the thickly populated and growing suburb of St Albans. Our neighbour Shirley has one of the best golf courses in and around Christchurch. Travis Road, between Bassett Street and the racecourse, could do with a good deal of filling up on the side of the present roadway. The drain alongside the roadway is a menace to vehicle traffic, especially on race days and holidays.
