WANT TO SETTLE IN AUSTRALIA.

By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Australian and N.Z. (’able Association. (Received June 2, 9.10 a.m.)

A letter has been received from General Lord Rawlinson, commander-in-chief of the Indian Army, stating that 2000 young officers of the Indian Army will shortly be retired, and asking for information regarding the suitability of Australia and the prospects for their settlement. Each officer on retiring receives a sum of from £IOOO to £ISOO as compensation.

The Prime Minister (Mr Hughes) has replied offering to send a representative to India to give full information regarding Australian conditions. At Lord Rawlinson’s suggestion, Air Hughes is now obtaining from the State Premiers particulars regarding available land and the terms of settlement. Mr Hughes states that a hearty welcome would be extended to these officers. The country might be considered fortunate if it could obtain them as settlers.
