HOCKEY.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION The fourth round of competition* was played to-day. The grounds were heavy.

Y.M.C.A. V. SYDENHAM.

A spell of mid-field play was followed by Sydenham attacking strongly, but Drayton and Everiss cleared, and Y.M.C.A. transferred play to the Sydenham end, where Snookea hit to the line. Sydenham returned and a right wing attack reached the Y M.C.A. circle. French put in a high shot which Drayton cleared. Pascoe fielded and returned the ball 6martl3 r to the net Sydenham 1, Y.M.C.A. 0. Y.M.C.A. rallied, and Sydenham were defending for a spell. A free hit for sticks against Y.M.C.A. gave Sydenham relief, and French and Sheriffs were prominent in a passing rush which reached Y.M.O.A.'s goal, but Oumings’s shot went wide- Fveriss set the Y.M.C.A. forwards moving, and Ford put in a good solo run but missed the shot at goal. Sydenham were kept on the defence, and Snooks saved a few hot shots. Half-time blew with the score— Sydenham 1, Y.M.C.A. 0. Y.M.C.A. put in a couple of sudden attacks early in the second spell, and Snookß effected two good sares from shots by Ford. Sydenham secured on the Y.M.C.A. goal line, and Taylor put in a fast solo run, but was beaten by Graham, who relieved with a long hit. Sydenham returned, and combined attack ended in Cummings adding to the score. Sydenham 2, Y.M.C.A. 0. Ford, who centred to Faulkner, the latter sending in a lightning shot, but it missel the net. Y.M.C.A. kept up the pressure, and Ford was again prominentin a forward movement, which ended in Holland scoring off a rebound. Sydenham 2, Y.M.C.A. 1. A few minutes before time Y.M.C.A. put in a solid attack, led by Hill and Holland. The former passed to Ford, who cleverly tricked Snooks and scored. The final score was:— Y.M.C.A TWO SYDENHAM .... CHRICTCHURCH V, CRANFORD.

These teams met at Hagley Park, Cranford being two short. Christchurch had the better of the opening exchanges, and a centre by Mather resulted ip James finding the net with a high shot. Christchurch 1. Cranford 0. Christchurch continued to hold the upper hand, and a shot by Joe narrowly missed. Quartermain and Smith transferred play to the other end, but Sepie intercepted nicely, and sent his forwards away. Joe broke away for Christchurch, and finished a good run by shooting over the bar. Cranford's play now improved, but hard hitting spoiled several opportunities. The Cranford forwards set. up an attack, and a scramble in the Christchurch circle resulted in Quartermain equalising the scores. Cranford 1. Christchurch 1. Christchurch retaliated and a combined movement saw Williamson miss an open goal. Half-time was called with the scores: Cranford 1; Christchurch 1. The second spell opened with Cranford attacking, but Christchurch soon took charge, and Joe found the net. Christchurch 2, Cranford 1. Williamson and Joe took play to Cranford territory, and Man der conceded a corner. The resultant hit. however, proved fruitless. Sisson put in a good run down the left wing for Christchurch, but Ackroyd saved, and Christchurch continued to hold the advantage. After a solo effort Joe secured his Becond goal. Christchurch 3. Cranford 1. Joe put in a fast run and centred, but Sisson shot over the post. The Christchurch forwards initiated a passing rußh, which ended In Joe passing to Williamson, who scored. The final result was : CHRISTCHURCH . . . FOUR CRANFORD .... ONE Referee: Mr M. Bugg.

TECHNICAL V. SELWYN.

The Selwyn forwards showing good combination, broke away from the bully, and kept Technical in the circle. Selwyn came back, and W. Bell lifted the ball into the top corner of the net from a scramble. Technical cajne away from the bully, but Grose cleared when Line was out of place and Selwyn had Technical defending again. Technical got away, and Gracie had a shot vhich went over the goal. Selwyn set up an offensive, Technical clearing from a couple of free hits. Byers cleared for Selwyn and set his forwards going. Half-time was called with the scere— Selwyn 1, Technical 0. Technical secured from the bully and went into the circle, where Chudley gave Line no chance with a hot shot. Selwyn 1, Technical 1. Technical again secured from the bully, and Line stopped some good shots. Selwyn cleaned, and attacked, Smith Baving twice. Selwyn kept up the attack, and Squires, securing from the line, found the net from well out. Technical kept Selwyn penned up. Grove cleared with a long hit, and Selwyn broke away. Technical cleared and attacked, and from a penalty corner Steere equalise"! the scores. Up and down play followed, both sides trying for the winning goal. Technical pressed hard, but gained no advantage from a couple of corners, and time was called with the SELWYN TWO TECHNICAL .... TWO Mr O. Bishop was referee.

JUNIOR CAMES.

SECOND GRADE. Sydenham 7, scored by Hanna (2), Ball, Hartigan, French, Ward and BrogneU, defeated Y.M.C.A. 1, scored by Armitage. Referee, Mr C. Whyte. Selwyn defeated Technical by 3 to 1. Scorers for Selwyn were: E. O’Connell (2), P. Richmond (1); and for Technical, Teague. Referee: Mr C. Bellamy. THIRD GRADE. Christchurch 3, defeated Technical 2. For Christchurch goals were scored by Johnston, Beame and Gasson, and for Technical by Matthews and Lindsay. Referee: Mr R. Woods. Selwyn defeated Y.M.C.A. by default. FOURTH GRADE. Technical A 13, defeated Technical B 0. Sydenham drew with West Christchurch, neither side scoring. Referee: Mr Thomas.

LADIES’ HOCKEY.

SENIOR. Wharenui 4, Sydenham 1. For Wharen-ui V. Rossiter (2), I. Johnstone (1) and C. Tillyshort (1) scored. For Sydenham, L. Grant scored. Referee, Mr C. A. Cooper. JUNIOR GRADE. Ngaio 1 drew with Rangiora 1. Miae Parsons scored for Rangiora and Miss Taylor for Ngaio. Referee, Mr J. Bugg. Digby's if beat Hinemoa B 0. P. Coombes (2), R. Davies (1), F. Oakley (1) and M. Halbert (1) scored. At Kaiapoi, Hinemoa A defeated Technical by twelve goals to nil. MV H. Hemingway refereed.
