SUMNER FIRE BRIGADE.

Tlio annual meeting of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Brigade was held this week, when Superintendent J. Carter presided over a full attendance. The annual report, which was read and adopted, stated that the past year had been a noteworthy one. The brigade had now been equipped with a new motor Are engine, and this had considerably added to its efficiency. Although no serious fires had occurred, the services of the brigade had been needed on several occasions. The practices had been well attended. The bal-ance-sheet showed a credit of £1 15s 3d. Superintendent Carter congratulated the members on the year’s working. He thanked them for their services, and trusted that the good spirit and fellowship which now existed would continue in the future. The following officers were appointed:— Superintendent and chairman, Mr J. Carter; deputy superintendent. Mr J. Merritt ; foremen. Messrs J. O. H. Newbury and J. I'. Williams; branchmen, Messrs E. O'Neill, W. Carter, .T. O'Neil, C. Ik Pinclroos, Q. Hines and J. S. Hines; liy<#ajitman, R. Clarke; honorary secretary. C. B. Eindroos; honorary auditor, E. A. Johnson. Tt was decided to hold the annual social towards the end of June. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr E. Denham for gifts of magazines for use in the social room.
