BOARD OF TRADE’S POWERS.

APPEAL TO FULL COURT. PREMIER’S DILEMMA. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received Afay 20, 11.15 a.m-) SYDNEY, Alay 20. An interesting position has arisen as a result of the appeal to the Full Arbitration Court challenging the authority of the Board of Trade to issuo more than one declaration in a year The previous Government sought legal advice on the same point, when refusing to Gazette a previous declaration. It was ascertained then that the only procedure would be to contest the application of the new rate. The Bread Charters’ Union has appealed against the Board’s declaration, which has been referred to tbe Full Court by Air Justice Rolin. If the appeal is upheld the Government will be obliged to amend the Act so ns to widen the powers of the Board, but such action will be against Sir George Fuller’s pre-election promise that there would l>e no reduction of wages, except decreases granted in the ordinary course. Various branches of the baking trade are holding a mass meeting on Sunday, with a view to deciding what action is to be taken in the event of wages being decreased. ENGINEERS’ WAGES. The Amalgamated Engineering Union (railway and tramway section) is convening a meeting to consider the High Court’s decision that the Commissioners are not bound by the Federal Award for engineers, granting a substantial increase in wages.
