EVENTS OF THE WEEK. [FROM OtrS CORRF.SPOHDENT J THE RANNMDALE SOLDIERS. The benefit concert to be given on Monday should provide a performance of a very high order. In order to assist the solo pianist, Mrs Reay, of Hardwick©_Stneet, is lending her Bechstein grand jgiano. SUMNER SCOUTS. About thirty members of the Sumner Boy Scouts went' into camp early in the week at Dunsandel. Scoutmaster C. Sherrard, who is in charge, was successful in making complete arrangements for the lads’ visit to the country. Good overhead accommodation was secured against inclement weather, and abundance, of firing and food was assured. Starting under the drizzling conditions accompanying a foggy northeaster, the boys have now experienced a heavy sou’-west blow. The trip and experiences on the jilains have proved very enjoyable in spite of drawbacks, and the boys are returning this morning all the better for their jaunt. SUMNER SCHOOL. The sub-committee appointed to arrange a programme of winter evenings in aid of the funds of the Sumner School met this week at the residence of Mrs F. Barber. The chairman, Mr G. A. Alexander, stated that arrangements had been made to bring the Christchurch mandolin orchestra, cf thirty-five strong, to open the series in the Town Hall soon after resumes. It was agreed that during the winter months a social, a children's evening and one other evening should definitely be booked, and the Town Hall secured. LADIES’ RIFLE CLUB. The Sumner-Redcliffs Ladies’ Minin ture Rifle Club held its opening “ shoot 15 last Saturday evening at the tramway shed. Although so far new members are not very numerous, the old members turned up well and good shooting was recorded, the trophy for the evening being carried off by Miss Cora Andrews with a total of 65. Mr C. Foster was assisted with the scoring by Mr J. S. Edmonds, of Monck’s Bay. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. The ladies of the Presbyterian Church have made arrangements to entertain the girls of the Presbyterian Orphanage at an outing at the seaside on Thursday next. The of the Life Saving Pavilion has been secured for the day. and the girls are to be treated to lunch and afternoon tea. A programme of games lias been arranged, and everything points to the girls having an enjoyable outing.
