OBITUARY.
AIR JOHN BURNIP. The death of Air John Burnip, late of Lyttelton, at the age of seventy-five years, occurred at the residence of his daughter, Airs E. Palmer-Smith, Bordesley Street, Linwood, this morning. Air Burnip, who was an old and respected resident of Lyttelton, landed at Wellington in 1874 with his wife and children by the ship Salisbury. After residing at Wellington for some time he came to Lyttelton, and was engaged by the Harbour Board in the construction of Gladstone Pier. For a number of years he was chief engineer on the s.s. Akaroa, which traded round the Peninsula, and was later chief engineer on the dredge Erskine. He again entered the employ of the Harbour Board as engine driver to the electrical and freezing chamber department. About twenty years ago he took up a position of engineer of the Lyttelton Borough Council, and was in charge of the pumping station at Lyttelton up till 1921. He was one of the oldest members of the Kinwinning Alasonic Lodge, having been initiated into that body in 1878. In recent years he took a. prominent part in the Lyttelton Bowling Club. Ho leaves five 6ons and five daughters. Airs Burnip died in 1912. The late Air Burnip will be accorded a Masonic funeral on Alonday.
