CRECHE AND KINDERGARTEN.

The monthly meeting of the Creche and Free Kindergarten Committee was held at the Y-M.C.A. The president, Mrs Peppier, presided over a good attendance- Correspondence was read from the Education Department requiring that all teachers in the kindergarten schools take the oath of allegiance. Applications were received fron Misses M’Kechnie and Page to become probationers in the kindergarten schools, the former a matriculated student and the latter having gained a senior free place. Both applications were considered satisfactory. The an. nual report and balance - sheet were read and adopted, and a committee was set up to undertake the printing The date of the annual meeting was fixed for the fourth Wednesday in June, and the secretary was instructed to advertise same. Nominations for officers for the forthcoming year were received. The honorary secretary {Mis? Tabart) asked to be relieved of her duties as general secretary to the association. During the year she had become convener of the new kindergarten school at Richmond, and now that the schools numbered six, with a roll of 350 children, it would be necessary to appoint a paid secretary and organiser to devote whole time to this valuable work. Kindergarten work was being recognised in all parts of the world, and its value could not be estimated. Mrs Taylor spoke at length on behalf of Miss Tabart’* plea, which was seconded by Mrs Evans. A discussion followed, and it was decided to leave the matter of advertising for a secretary as well as a collector for the association to Mrs Evans and Miss Tabart. The school reports were read and adopted, and showed the following attendances and motherssubscriptions :—Sunbeam —Roll number 57, average attendance 40.7, subscriptions £4 9s 4d ; Phillipstown—Roll number 72, average attendance 60, subscriptions £3 6s number 56, average attendance 43, subscriptions £2 9s 6d : “ Little Citizen* —roll number 43, average attendance 25.3, subscriptions £2 9s 3d; Selwyn—roll number 30, average attendance 43.1, subscriptions £3 13s; Richmond--roll number 53, avernge attendance 49. subscriptions £5. Miss Hull reported that Miss Frances Holland. head teacher of “ Little Citizens ” Kindergarten, had ®at for +ho Government examination- and obtained her N.Z diploma. The secretary was instructed to write Miss Holland and congratu- , late her on her distinction. Miss Tabart re>ported the president for the Plunket Society (Mrs Oraoroft Wilson) had communicated with her that Dr Truby King would open his child -welfare campaign in June, and if possible would like to obtain the use of kindergarten schoolrooms in some districts in which addresses con Id be given to mothers- Tt wns decided to help in this matter.
