The most spectacular man-hunt for years occurred when all the traffic was diverted from Twentieth Street and Fifth Avenue, where the police sur-. rounded a textile warehouse. Detectives crossed the roofs into the fourth storey, and finally arrested four of the city’s leading criminals., two of whom slid down greased elevator pillars. Loot worth £4OOO was recovered. Outside, crowds numbering many thousands, watched the police siege.
