May 19 The Industrial Court declined to grant the application of the master bakers for a reduction of the bread j carters’ wages. The application was made in consequence of the recent Board of Trade declaration on the basic wage. The Court referred the matter to the Full Court for argument on a point submitted by the union's representative that the Board of Trade could only make one declaration I yearly, and that, therefore, the last ■ declaration was ultra vires and couTct ! not be enforced. It is estimated that the last two ! reductions in the basic wage will rosuit in n saving of £1,000.000 annuallv | in the wages of public service.
