ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
ASHBURTON. The thirty-sixth annual meeting ol the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society, was held on Wednesday evening. The chairman of the council, Mr G. H. Hefford, presided. The annual report, stated that the revenue from all sources bad been. £334 7s 10a. and the expenditure £432 5s lid. A credit balance brought forward from last year left tlie society in credit to the sum of £l2O 17s. with a balance ot assets over liabilities of £440 17s. Decreased expenses were accounted for by .heavy but non-re-curring items of expenditure. The season for fishing bad been a good one. especially in the Rangitata and Ashburton. <om plaints had been received about stroke hauling and steps, resulting in three convictions. bad been taken to stop the practice. Thirty-four applications had been re ceived for sixteen deer licenses, and many good beads had been secured. Iteporta to hand showed that, the herds would have to be further culled. Although the chairman pointed out that, the by-laws would not permit it being given effect, to. a recommendation to the incoming council was carried asking it to consider tho withdrawal of the cancellation for three, year? of the licenses of three anglers convicted of stroke hauling.
