Blow, New Zealand Government Agent, is a passenger for New Zealand by the R.AI.S. Makura from Sydney, states a Press Association message. Air AValter AJonk, representative for J. C. A\ llliamson, Ltd., arrived from the north yesterday to make the pro liminary arrangements for the comic opera season, opening on Tuesday week with “ Alerrie England.” ATr F. B .Glasgow, of Pnngiora, is still in a dangerous condition. Ho has not yet regained consciousness- At Inst night’s meeting of tho Pangiora Borough Council a motion of sympathy with him and his family was passed Chaplain-Captain J. Wilson, member in the New South AValcs Assembly for AVestern Suburbs, Sydney, called on the Alayor yesterday and was introduced by Air H.- Holland. Air AVilson, who went to tho front in 1914, has been asked to give a lecture on his war experiences, in aid of the Sir Arthur Pearson fund for th© blind. The lecture will probably be given on Alay 26. Aliss Alorgaret Thorp, who is giving lectures throughout New Zealand in aid of the Russian relief funds, will arrive in Christchurch next Friday, and will bo tendered a civic welcome. after which she will give an address. Lectures ar© being arranged for the Sunday night following and for Monday at mid-day. Aliss Thorp spent some time in Russia on relief work with the Society of Friends. Last evening, at Freeman’s Cafe, the employees of Alessrs Andrews and Heaven, Ltd., entertained Air A. AV. Beaven, managing director of the company, at a dinner and smoke concert prior to his departure for America and Britain. The chair was occupied by Air Frank O. Andrews, acting-manag-ing director, who proposed the health of the guest, which was acclaimed with musical honours. Air R. Raddon, the oldest employee present, asked Air Beaven to accept from th© employees a suitcase for liis own use and a Kaiapoi rug with monogram for Airs Beaven, wishing them both a pleasant journey and a safe return. During the evening musical items were contributed by Alessrs Aloir, Hilton and Lours, and a recitation by Air Lintbrick. Air AV. Ashcroft presided at tho pianoforte, adding greatly to the enjoyment of the evening. Alany old friends in the Ellesmere district will learn with regret of tho death of Air Edward Peet, which took place at the home of his sister, Aliss Honoria Peet, Currens, Farranjore, County Kerry, Ireland, on January 25The late Air Peet landed in New Zealand in 1870, and was for some time in the service of the late Air John Rennie, of li Alary field, ’ Doyleston. Later he wont in extensively for contracting work and did a large amount of cropping for the late Sir John Hall at Hororata. Ho also did a considerable amount of road forming for the old Ellesmere Road Board. On giving up contracting lie was engaged for some years in exporting draught horses to Sydney, meeting with a good deal of success. Later on h© took up land at Halswell, and from there removed to Rrookside. Retiring from farming tho deceased mad© his home at Doyleston until Alav. 1921, when lie left for England on a visit to his relatives. Landing at Plymouth lie was met by his brother. Dr Peet, of Surrey. Front there ho wont to Ireland to visit another brother, Air Hastings Peet, who was for some years in partnership with him in New Zea land, and also his sister. Aliss Peet.
