DISCUSSION BY ED CCA TIO N. BOARD. The cut in wages as the result of the Arbitration Court’s recent decision was discussed at the x meeting of the Canterbury Education Board to-day. Mr C. 8. Thompson said that the bonus question should have been considered by the Finance Committee. All th“ employers had agreed to reduce wages of workmen, in accordance with the Arbitration Court's decision ami the Board should fall into line. Mr 11. C. Lane (secretary), said that salaries wore, being reduced. Mr Thompson said that he did not know on whos- authority this had been done. The Finance Committee should have considered the matter first. There had been a breeze in the City Council because certain officials had acted in a certain direction. The Finance Committee should have been consulted. No action was taken in (lie matter. The Otago Labour Council passed a resolution expressing sincere disappointment at the decision of the Arbitration Court in reducing the wages of workers, as in its opinion the .judgment was not based on the merits of the ease sumbitted by the workers* representatives. it was also resolved that the Council protests against the action of th« workers’ representatives <>u the Court in consenting to a reduction in the standard of living of tho workers in New Zealand.
