Air William loms, well known as a Maori, interpreter, died suddenly at Masterton on Monday, aged seventy* two. A son of the late Mr and Mrs Richard loms, who arrived in Wellington in 1841, and who afterwards settled in the VYa.irara.pa. the deceased for many years carried the mails from Masterton to the East Coast. A member of the Masterton Racing Club since its foundation, the late Mr loms was lor thirty years clerk of the course. He had also acted as clerk of the course for the Wellington Racing Club for many years. An active member of the Wairarapa and Agricultural Association in the early days, deceased was also a keen volunteer. The late Mr Jule Lelievre, who dien on Saturday at the Lewisham Hospital, was an old Peninsula resident. He was a native cf Brittany, France, and with Jus brother Eugene, who died several years ago. came out to Yew Zealand to his uncle, the late Francois Lelievre, in 1860. In 1866 he married his cousin, Francoise Lelievre, and started dairy farming at Gough’s Bay. Some years ago he sold the farm and bought a small property in Takamatuiu where lie lived for a time until he sold tho place. Several years ago he had a stroke and had been an inmate o? Lewisham Hospital ever since. His wife predeceased him many years ago . He leaves two sons and three daughters who are all married.
