GOVERNMENT AND WAGES. By Teleeraph—Pre=s .Association-Copyriffht Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY, May 17. The Government has decided to apply to the Court for a reduction of seven shillings weekly from July 1 in the wages of public servants. It is estimated that this, if successful, will re.s-.JI', in a. saving of £300,000 annually. The Government has also decided to introduce next session a Bill abolishing the forty-four hour week. A meeting of union leaders has decided that the most effective resistance possible be made against any wage reductions. and steps be taken to effect a consolidation of the unions for this purpose. __________________
