Dr E. Boxer, O.AI.GL, of Hastings, formerly ©resident of th© New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, returned by the lonio troni a visit to tho Old Country. A public reception will be given to the Primate. Archbishop Julius, on his return to Christchurch, in tho Choral Hall on June 6. The Alnyor and councillors have been invited tc attend. Mi E \Y. Fawcett, of Wellington has been appointed a temporary agricultural instructor in the Department of Agriculture at Christchurch. He will take the place of Mr R. M’Gilli vray. who will leave in June on an eighteen months trip to Europe and America. Chaplain-Captain J. Wilson, member in the N.S.W. Assembly for "Western Suburbs, Sydney, called on the Mayor this morning, and was introduced by Mr H. Holland. .Mr Wilson, who vent to the iront in 1914, has been asked to give a lecture on his war experiences, in aid of the Sir Arthur Pearson fund for +he blind. The lecture will probably be given on Alay 26. Ariss Margaret Thorp, who is giving lectures throughout New Zealand in aid of the Russian relief funds, will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow week, and will be tendered a civic welcome, after which she will give an address. Lectures are being arranged for the Sunday night following and for Monday at mid-dny. Alias Thorp spent some time in Russia on relief work with the Society of Friends. The death has occurred at Ashburton of Frederic Mainwaring. aged seventy-eight, clerk to the Ashburton County Council since its constitution in 1878. % During his forty-four years’ service Air Alainwaring had never taken an annual holiday until a fortnight ago, when he was granted one year’s leave of absence on full pay. He arrived in the Dominion in 1864. Ho was a member of an old Staffordshire naval family.
