TELEPHONE INSTALLATIONS
HUGE WAITING LIST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 16. The latest return furnished to the Postmaster-General of telephone installations shows that good progress has been made with the work of installing new lines, but there is yet a heavy demand to meet. During March 221 subscribers were joined up in Auckland and at the end of the month there were 2898 applicants on the waiting list. In Wellington district 649 were joined up, and there were 1346 waiting. Tn Canterbury 61 were joined up, and 1314 were waiting. Tn Otago 114 were joined up, and 574 were waiting. Altogether 745 new connections were made for the month, and there remained 6132 on the waiting list. Slackness of business appears to have had practically no effect upon the number of applications for telephones.
