BRANTFORD RESERVATION.
t By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyriglu Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. OTTAWA, May 16. The Minister for the Interior, Mr C. Stewart, hae assured the Indians at Brantford that the reservation lands would remain under the control of the Six Nations and that certain reforms would be instituted in the Indian Act, but he refused to commit himself on demands made to definq the Indian status, either as Canadian subjects or as Allies. He advised the Indians to let the issue drop and live in peace and harmony with the whites.
A previous message stated that a serious situation had arisen at the Six Nations Indian reservation in Brantford. Ontario, as a result of the Government ousting Indian ‘‘squatters’* from reservation lands which the Government had reserved for ex-service men. Canadian Court officers who attempted to oust the squatters barely escaped with their lives. The Indiana showed an ancient deed purporting to give them complete rights over the reservation.
