WELUXGTON WA IR A R Al* A CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association ) WANGANUI, May 16 The annual conference of the Wellington-\\ airarapu Farmers’ Union opened to-day, Mr W. Morrison presiding over a large attendance of delegates. The following remits were carried : ----- “That this conference strongly protests against the unjust deduction of •lib weight per bale of wool. called ‘■graft. ’ by the selling brokers. That the former arrangement of fourteen days’ prompt, with regard to payments for wool sold, be reverted toI hat the V* oolbrokers' Association be requested to make a reduction in their charges for handling wool, especially the charge of one farthing per lb for receiving, weighing and lotting. That the interprovincial conference be requested to give consideration to the matter of excessive and other charges in wool. That the Government be urged to bring down legislation to make stock and station tirms liable for payment on sales of live stock made through them or their agents for forward delivery. That mi export hoard should be j formed to represent every branch of the farming industry. Remits were carried (1) urging abolition of'compulsory preference to unionists; (2) objecting to the Railway Department prohibiting its servants assisting to load cream cans: (3) drawing the attention of the Railway Department to the penalty imposed on inland freezing works by the high freight on ■ frozen meat compared with live stock ; ‘ (4) urging t}ie reduction of railway j freights. ! General complaint was made of dam- i age to crops by Imres. It was stated i that in some localities reafforestation , was impossible owing to the damage '■ done to young trees, and it was said the pest was as bad as rabbits. It was j decided to take steps to have the pro- i tection of hares removed.
