CRACROFT HILL.
SECURED AS SCENIC RESERVE. Through the generosity of nine pub-lic-spirited citizens, Craeroft Hill, which is situated at the terminus of the Cashmere Hills tram terminus, has been secured as a scenic reserve for the pleasure and enjoyment of the people of Canterbury. These citizens have paid between them the cash required for the deposit on the laud, one making a donation of £IOO, another a donation of £SO and several from £25 downwards. The intention is to hold th© block in trust for the period of on© year, and each purchaser has signed an undertaking that he will, on the balance of tho purchase price being forthcoming, sign a transfer of the land to his Majesty the King for the purpose of a scenic reserve. It is now proposed to enter ou a campaign with the object of providing the balance of the purchase money, so as to hand the hill over in as short a time as possible. The scheme originated with Dr E. G. Levinge, who is one of the purchasers, and be has for some time been working verv bard to bring about the acquisition of the land, which, on account of its easy accessibility. will become one of tho most valuable scenic reserves on the Cashmere Hills.
