During seven hours of ceaseless shooting, cold-blooded murders, and incendiarism in Belfast, foul- Catholics and one Protestant were killed, and six Catholics and one Protestant were badly injured. The curfew’s silence was punctuated by the shooting. Volleys at dawn heralded another red day. There was heavy fighting in Dublin at midnight, in which machine guns, and rifles and revolvers were used. The Provisional Government’s offices were attacked from both sides, but they were not tenanted.
