UREWERA LANDS ACT.
[Per Press Association'.] WELLINGTON, April 20. Messrs Harold Herbert Carr and Raleigh John Knight have been appointed commissioners for the purposes of the Urewera Lands Act, 1921-22. The function of the commissioners is to carry into effect the scheme of consolidation agreed upon between the Government and the Urewera natives with regard to resjwctivo Government and native interests in the Urewera country. For carrying out their task they arc entrusted with considerable powers The commissioners are empowered, for example, to effect where necessary exchanges of Crown Lands for Native lands to decide in which cases equity requires that a sum of money should be paid in connection with consolidation or exchanges required to carry oct teh scheme, and to deal, if need be, with outside areas owned by Natives.
