RHODESIA AND THE UNION.
INCORPORATION CONFERENCE. PROSPECTS NOT IMPROVED. By Telegraph—Prep# Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 20. 12.5 p-.m.) CAPE TOWN, April 19. Negotiations have opened between the Union Government and the Chartered Company’s representatives with n view to ascertaining the terms upon which the former could acquire land, railway and mineral rights in Rhodesia. An official communique states that the conference has closed. The Union Government explained that it desired to come to a provisional agreement with the company before finally formulating the terms of incorporation. As soon as the negottatons were completed the terms would be communicated to the High Commissioner in time for a referendum. The general opinion among the delegates was that the prospects of union had not been improved by the conference. aud that Rhodesia would probably prefer trying responsible Government first.
