At the inquest on Mervyn Gannon, victim of the recent Coogee tragedy, the Coroner said he was unable to decide on the evidence, who had rescued Gannon but it was sufficient they were brave men and did everything humanly possible to rescue him. (Th© first message of the tragedy stated that Jack Brown, beach inspee- ! tor, dashed to the rescue of Mervyn j Garmon, when he was seized by a ] shark, and that he was assisted by an- j other surfer named Ernest Carr.)
