WHO’S WHO IN SPORT.
To my: muon_ Sin—" Thar. flexible Word “Sport," will soon (be in need of a. careful definition it it is to be used by propagandists tr indicate the flamboyant individual who is now, happily, barred from racecourses in terms of the Gaming Act. The numerous organisations who ven—ture to employ the word have now been added In by the creation of the Dominion Sportsman’s Association, but it would be well to appreciate the difference between the " sports“ denoted in this case and the sports for which such bodies as the Sports Protection Association and even the Sports Pro-tect-ion [league stand. In a nut-shell, the Dominion Sports Association might. more properly be called the New Zealamd Bookmakers‘ Federation. I, as a follower of amateur sport for the last twenty ycais, desire to enter an emphatic: protest against the implied association of sportsmen generally with the body which is putting in a plea. for the bookmaker. The lIIOVCment for the iegnlising of these men is Concerned chiefly with IIOI‘SP racing, but once they obtain a footing they will reappear on amateur sports grounds with dire results. I think that the amateur sports bodies of the Dominion shauid make it clear that. they have no connection with this new body—l am, 310., - ANIATEURu
