For the purpose of encouraging earlier marriages M. Cognacq, proprietor of a big departmental store has given the French Academy securities yielding an income of a million francs. Ho has instructed the academy to award annually a hundred prizes of 10,000 francs to parents under fifty years of age with a minimum of five children. M. Cognacq and his wife presented the academy three years ago with securities yielding 2,250,000 francs for ninety annual prizes to parent® with a minimum of nine children. The capital value of Oognacq’s gifts total 61,000,000 francs.
