WANCANUI NOTES. (Special to tlie “ Star.’ 5 ) WANGANUI, February 18. The only visiting horses who were out on the tracks this morning were R.. J„ Mason’s trio, -Gloaming, Vespucci and Egotism and Astinome. A number of others are expected hero to-day. The tracks are very hard and a good soaking rain is badly .needed. Egotism was sent two rounds on the grass, covering the last half mile in a shade over 50sec. She moved very attractively. Vespucci, looking remarkably well, was given half pace work. Gloaming. on the lead, trotted round three times. Tarquin finished up a round on the plough by covering the last half mile iti 50sec. La Paloma and Warrawe© went seven furlongs together on the plough in lmin 34sec. Winkie Wheel finished in front of Advent and Legato at the end of i half a mile in 51 2-sscw. Cruc.elle covered seven furlongs on the plough hv herself in lmin 32seo. Thespian ran half a mile on the grass in 53®ec comfortably. T/istowel. Yola.nde, War Loan. All Cerise, Khartoum, Astinome and Amber Tips all did useful work. After breakfast Lively Girl sprinted two furlongs in 26sec and Tirana half a mile in 51 3-ssec. Wake Up went lame at New Plymouth and has been blistered and turned out. M. Gardner’s two-year-old filly, Pirouette, is also being spelled. She is suffering from influenza. It is reported tliat v J.
