SCHOONER ASHORE.
OFF FAREWELL SPIT, CREW SAFE. (Pf.b Press Association.l GKaFYMOUTH, February 18. Captain Pearson, of the Orepuki, which has arrived from Wellington, reported that he sighted off Farewell Spit a three-masted schooner which he tliought was the Vat marie. The vessel was ashore with her head on to the beach about nine miles weet of the Spit -lighthouse. The crew were camped ashore in tents. In answer to signals offering assistance of a tow. the master signalled that the vessel was too bard and fast in the State of the tide then, but he would possibly refloat with the rising spring tides. The Valmari© has a tonnage of 255, and is owned by Poaenfiat and Go.. Sydney. She was duo at Wellington from Clarence R*lver with hardwood timber.
