The amateur golfers, by an overwhelming: majority, voted in favour of the suggested new amateur rule that the qualifying: rounds of tho amateur championship should be decided by stroko instead of. match play. The 247 competitors in tho championships of 1920 and 1921 were circularised, with * the result that 129 favoured the proposal, 19 were agaihst it, while 99 did not reply. A petition lias been presented to the authorities reqxtestinp: that the change should govern the 1922 championship at Prestwieh in May. The proposal provides that thirty-two competitors should qualify bj' stroke play, and that the.se afterwards should be drawn to meet over tb.irty-Bix holes by match play. KIRKWOOD'S PLANS. (Received January 26. 10.5 a.m.i NEW YORK, January 25. Kirkwood has entered for the Nortli and South open golf championship, beginning o<i March 81. There is a recurrence of the report that he is going to settle permanently in the United States. (A Sydney messagre received yesterday stated that Kirkwood Will depart early in February to compete in America. From there he will go to Britain to participate tti the open championship.)
