IN THE BALANCE.

AIR SERVICE SCHEME. INDIA TO BAY. By Telegraph—Pres* Association—Copyright United Service. (Received January 26, 9.15 a.m.) LONDON. January 24. The fate of the Imperial Air Service scheme is n the balance. Inda’s eagerly awaitedi verdict decides the issue. The Air Ministry states that it has not been advised of India’s decision, and it is believed itthat it has not yet been arrived at. It is understood that cables have passed between Mr Hughes (Prime Minister of Australia) and India in that connection, and it is hoped with good effect. The Air Ministry states that New Zealand and South Africa turned down the scheme owing to State finances. It was known that Mr Massey was not enthusiastic at the time of the Imperial Conference, but it is believed that he was subsequently converted. The decision came ns a great disappointment in local air circles, though New Zealand’s inclusion is not essential to the inauguration of the service and South Africa ,■ is only a branch line. If India joins the Australian service will start.
