METROPOLITAN MARKET. TO-DAY’S SALE. There was a small yarding of beef at the Metropolitan weekly market at Addington to-day and prices showed considerable improvement on the low rates that have been ruling of late. The entry of fat lambs was also smaller than last week and here again values were better, some really good prices being paid for prime stuff. The store sheep sale was the best seen at Addington for some time. Between nine and ten races of fat sheep were forward, the same number as last week. FAT CATTLE. The entry of fat cattle was smaller than last week, when 302 were forward. The yarding included some excellently finished beef hut a good proportion of the entry ooneisted of light stuff. Right from the start of the sale bidding was brisk and prices showed a considerable advance on last week’s. The opening valueß were between £2 lOs and £3 per head better foi’ prime stuff and between 25s anti 35s per head better for light beef. No doubt the smaller 3’arding contributed towards the improved values. The following were the principal salesF. Coop (Knitnna), 6 steers at £1 17s 6d to £l2 5p : T. Howson (Sedgemere), 8 steers at £l3 15s to £l6 2s 6d. Values were:— Extra prime steers to £l7. Prime steers £l2 to £ls. Medium steers £8 5s to £ll. Prime heifers £7 10s to £9 12s 6d. Ordinary heifers £4 17s 6d to £7 2s Cd. Prime cows £5 17s fid to £9 ss. . Ordinary cows £3 los to £5 10s. STORE SHEEP. The yarding of store sheep was the largest that has been seeu at Addington for some time, and prices all round were well in advance of late rates. All classes were well represented, wethers and lambs predominating. The wethers Aver© mostly poor quality late shorn sheep off hard, country, and few forward lines were offered. An increased entry of lambs included a number of pens of good rupo lam 1)8. Four or five pens of fairly good breeding ewes Avere forward. The sale throughout was a distinct improvement on any of recent weeks, and the competition for rape lambs Avas almost excited. Considering the quality, wethers sold well at an advance on late rates. There was also n good inquiry for better class ewes. Fair four-tooth wethers 11a 7d. Fair twq and four-tooth wethers 10s 6d. Ordinary six and eight-tooth Avethers 8b to 9s 3d. Cull six and eight-tooth wethers 4s lid to 7b 6d Good forward lambs 13s 5d to 14a Ordinary lambs ICs to lOs 9d. Cull lambs fis Id to 7s fid. Sound-mouth ewes (low-conditioned) and lambs 5s fall counted). Five-year ewes and lambs 8s lOd (all counted). Two-tooth ewes 10s Id to 13s Id.

Four-tooth eAves 13s Id. Four and six-tooth ewes 9s 2d to 10s lid. FAT SHEEP. There were between nine and ten races of fat sheep forward, about the same as last week. The sale opened briskly, an 1 prices all round showed an advance on last week’s. Good a*ethers were in demand. FAT LAMBS. There were 3300 fat lambs forward, compared with 3630 last. week. The sale throughout, was a spirited one. Butchers bought the heavy-weight lambs and paid good prices for them, the top price being 80s for six especially prime lambs from Mr A. M’Clelland (Courtenay). Freezing buyers operated freely for the lighter-Aveight lambs, and paid up to 6sd per lb and in some cases as much as 6id. The sale on the whole was very satisfactory. Values were: — Extra prime lambs 22s 6d to 30b. Prime lambs 18s 6d to 22p. Medium lambs 16s to 18s 3d. Light and inferior lambs 12s 9d to -15 b od.
