INCREASED SEAMEN’S WAGES.

OWNERS ASKED TO PAY. REQUEST REFUSED. (Per Press Association.) AVELLINGTON, January 18. The executive of the Seamen’s Federation met yesterday to consider a letter from the Shipowners’ Federation asking it not to enforce clause 43 of tho agreement in.respect to increased wages in conformity with the recent Australian advance. The executive decided that it could not see its way tl to abrogate or set aside anv matter in agreement, whether for or against the seamen’s organisation. The executive, therefore, cannot see its way to arced© to the shipowners' request."* The shipowners have boon asked to direct all boats to pay the increased scale as from December 21 last.
