PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. WELLINGTON V. OTAGO. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 6. The Plunket Shield match, Wellington v. Otago, commenced in line weather. The wicket is in excellent order. Otago won the toss and went to the wickets. Brice, the Wellington captain, being unable to play, Binnie filled the vacancy. Some fine batting was shown 'in the early stages, Shepherd scoring in gopd style mainly by means of an off drive. M’Mullan, who partnered him, made a weak opening stroke, sending up k catch just out of reach. M’Girr and Heiufcsrson were the bowlers, the latter proving' somewhat expensive. After twenty-five minutes’ play the score was 44, Shepherd having contributed 37. a , , u Later. and M’Mullan made a good stand the former giving a bright display. Alter bowling changes were made the partnership terminated at 63. M’Mullan being caught by the wicket-keeper, Siedeberg partnered Shepherd until, at 84, the latter was caught in the slips. He had compiled 67, including eight boundaries in an hour. S4 “ 2 —Gl- Siedeberg soon went, but Carlton and Galland did better, the score being 135 for four wickets at • the luncheon adjournment.
