Mr 11. Pearce was nominated to-dav by Messrs W. J. Jenkin and C. Dickson as a candidate for the Lin wood sub--1 district in the Tramway Board elections. Reference to the death of Air AV. Beauchamp-Platts, secretary of the New Zealand Automobile Association, was made at last evening’s meeting of the council of the Canterbury Automobile Association, and a motion was carried placing on record appreciation of the W'ork done by him for the good of motoring. Air AV. J. Walter has been nominated to represent the New Brighton-A von sub-district on the Christchurch Tramway Board. He has represented the subdistrict for the last three years. The nomination has been made by Dr AV. K. Stevens and Air F. Kibblewhite, of New Brighton, and Mr J. G. Kettle, of Papanui. Amonst the members of the Post and Telegraph service who recently retired on superannuation was Air D. E. Ivory, a son of the late Air Aquila Ivory* who was for a great number of years identified with public life in Rangiora. AltIvory, who was born iri Raugiora, joined the service in 1882 as the first letter carrier in his native town, bis daily round comprising the whole borough. After two years, having qualified himself as a telegraphist, he went to Lyttelton, and in JB9l was transferred to Dunedin, where he has remained ever since. Promotion was offered him on several occasions, but he preferred to remain in the citv for family reasons. Tn 1909 lie opened the Moray Place Post Office, but after filling the position of postmaster for a short term his health broke down. A long vacation enabled him to resume at the chief telegraph office, whore he served in. tho operating room until his retirement. The members of the telegraph and telephone staff entertained him at a valedictory social, and presented him with a R*et of bowls. Air Ivory being an enthusiastic bowler.
