CHEAPEST "BEER” SIXPENCE. NEW RANGE OF PRICES. This morning the Licensed Victuallers’ Association decided on the new price list for spirits and beer rendered necessary te- tariff increases. The principal items of the new price list to he charged over hotel bars from Monday next, are as follows: Beer (pints) . . . . 8d Beer (minimum) . . . 6d Whisky (by measure) . . 9d Tfho principal increase is in beor, which hitherto has been sold at 6d a pint. In future the minimum price- of any kind of a beer, up to and including a “ Wanganui ” of three-quarters of a pint will b© 6d. Pints will cost eight pen ce. All whisky sold in nips will be measured out at the present price of ninepence. Brandy will also be measured out at ninepence for bulk and Is for bottled lines as at present. Bottled whisky will be increased by 2s to 14s. This will mean that the hotelkeeper will bear 20 per cent of the increase and pass on $0 per cent. No increase will be made in gins, except for Wolfe’s Schnapps and Old Toni, in which the increase is over 100 per cent. Local bottled beer will remain at th© same price, but “ square riggers ” will go up from Is to Is 2d, while beer will go up from 4s to 4s Od a gallon. This increase is consequent on the heavy increase in the excise duty, 'which was 139 a hogshead before the war, and is now 525. Hogsheads have been increased to hotelkeepers from £5 19s to £7 ss. Bottled beer and stout have been advanced Is a dozen. The price of imported champagne and sparkling wines will remain the same, but there will be a slight increase in the price of Australian sparkling wines. Other wines will remain the same. Whether sold in private or public bars the pricey of liquor for the future will be the same.
