BOXING.

NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL, .A meeting of tho Carnival Committee \va ß held last evening. Mr J. It. bvans presiding. The action of tho executive in grantag permission to the Wellington association to match Frank O’Neill and Les Murray for the light-weight chain, pionship on November 10 was approved. The council secretary presented a report on the visit to Sydney of the New Zealand team. He was instructed to •:cnvey to the Northern Boxing Association the council’s thanks for its generous donation of £6O towards the expenses of tho team.. Without that financial assistance it would have been :mpossible to send a full team. Correspondence was received from J. Graham (Auckland) and F. Brown (Invercargill), both requesting to be recognised as the welter-weight champion, the title being in abeyance, and stating their readiness to be matched, tt was decided to bring the matter under the notice of local association. The secretary of the Wellington Association wrote stating that, in the opinion of his committee, the appointment of local officers should be made by the council, nnd not by local associations. Consideration of the matter was deferred. The secretory of the Christchurch Sports Club wrote that his comitlitto© declined to recognise any responsibility irt connection with 13. M Cleary’s expenses to and from Auckland, as the matter was one for the Ashburton Club or the council. The council secretary was instructed to state the position to the Christchurch Sports Club. Application for the affiliation of the Bay of Plenty and To Kuiti Associations wan received from the South Auckland Centre, together with a, recommendation that they be affiliated. The application was granted, and the council secretary wap instructed to inform the Minister of Internal Affairs of the council's decision. Correspondence was received from the Gisborne Centre in connection with the Waikohu Association, which had been affiliated by the council under a misunderstanding as to the attitude of the Centre. It was pointed out that Te Karnka, the headquarters of the Waikohu Association, was within a short distance of Gisborne, and that an association there was not needed, tho association at Gisborne being quite sufficient for tho district. It was decided to, rescind tho motion of affiliation, and to explain to the Minister of Internal Affairs how the affiliation came about. The secretary of the Gisborne Centre forwarded particulars of the suspension of two persons who allegedly had acted in a manner which was considered to be detrimental to the interests of boxing. Consideration was deferred till the pext meeting. A draft copy of the articles of agreement received by the council from the Grey mouth conference was received from the council’s solicitors. Several important additions were made, and Jho council secretary was instructed to have the articles printed.
