NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN.
CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH. The usual monthly meeting of the Christchurch Branch of the National Council of Women was held on Monday last, Miss Henderson presiding. Tho president stated that communications had been received from the Women’s Service Guilds of W estern Australia. Owing to stress of business it was decided to withhold discussion of these communications until next meeting. Miss Henderson also announced that a sum of money had been left to tho New Zealand Council by the will or tho late Mrs Daldy, of Auckland, who for many years had been greatly interested in th© work of the National Council. A. short report of the proceedings of the recent New Zealand Conference, which-was held in Wellington, was then given by the delegates. Twenty-one delegates from the various branches throughout New Zealand had attended the conference. Resolutions and recommendations of the International Council.had been dealt with; remits on many matters pertaining to the welfare of/women and children throughout New Zealand had been discussed and recommended. A New Zealand Standing Committee was appointed to keep in touch with women’s interests in other countries of th© world. The present officers of the New Zealand Council, viz., president. Miss Melville; secretary. Miss Henderson; treasurer. Miss Jackson, had been re-elected. The Conference decided to nnpoint Mrs K. W. Shepixird as first life member of tho council, in recognition of her work in connection with the formation of the council. It. was decided that th© next conference should be held ill Christchurch in 1922. Mrs Roberts announced that the Mothers’ Union had circulated a petition urging the amendment of the present divorce laws.
