TREES CHOPPED DOWN.
RIVERBANK VANDALS. Two well grown young plane trees on the river bank in Cambridge Terrace, opposite the City Council Chambers, have been wantonly chopped with an axe near the root. One has fallen, and the other, although growing, will probably also fall. Tho two trees were planted recently by the Beautifying Association on the newly grassed portion of the river bank known in times past as the daffodil hank. The act of vandalism seems to have been isolated, as an examination disclosed that only two of a large number of trees had been damaged, and there is no evidence that the removal of these two trees would be of advantage to anybody living in tho vicinity. ! The mutilation of trees is not common in the city Recently, after the City Council’s workmen had pruned trees in Graeefield Street, some vandal came along and lopped large branches off.
