In the House of Commons Mr Austen Chamberlain said the Government was not prepared to approach America with a suggestion that the United Kingdom would cancel half the debts owing to her on condition that the United States accepted the responsibility for the other half which amounted to about £6Of;,000 000. Horne said the Government was not 'communicating with the United States Government with reference to the cancellation of European war debts.
