SEXUAL OFFENCES.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Octolier 31. When the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened to-day, the grand jury, in returning true bills in thel thirteen cases submitted to it, recommended : * ; ln view of the large number of sexual offences lately, and without bearing on the cases oh tho calendar, we are of opinion that a more severe penalty be inflicted, in the form of flogging if necessary.” Mr justice Honking said that he would note tho recommendation, which was quite proper. It indicated the extent to which public opinion went in regard to such cases and also would assist tho Court to decide the difficult matter of making; tho punishment fit the crime.
