SHANTUNG DISPUTE.

Official circles think that Japan is likely to request President Harding to mediate personally in tho Shantung controversy between Japan and China, without reference to the Disarmament Conference. The diplomatic advisory council to Cabinet is expected to consider this course during the coming week’s meeting. Japan is expected to ignore China’s latest Note/ leaving things as they are, either until mediation settles them or China asks for a resumption of negotiations.
